This is a very attractive specimen consisting of brown dogtooth crystals of Calcite on Quartz crystals from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Calcite is found throughout the world in sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. Some geologists consider it to be a "ubiquitous mineral" - one that is found everywhere. Calcite is the principal constituent of limestone and marble.

Howlite was discovered near Windsor, Nova Scotia in 1868 and named after Henry How, a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist. It often forms in nodules which resemble cauliflower heads.
