This is a strand of white Howlite beads with an overall length of 38 cm (15 inches).  The individual gemstone beads are triangular in shape and range in size from 10x9.5 to 16.5x13 mm.  In total, the bead strand contains over 154ct of natural Howlite beads.

Howlite was discovered near Windsor, Nova Scotia in 1868 and named after Henry How, a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist.  It often forms in nodules which resemble cauliflower heads. The nodules are opaque, white with gray or black veins, often showing web-like pattern. 

Howlite is said to be an extremely calming stone, it can be an excellent antidote to insomnia.  It is also said that Howlite teaches patience and helps to eliminate anger and strengthens positive character traits.

The large terminated gem quality Fluorapatite crystal (25 mm/1 in.) sits at the top flanked by its smaller sibling crystals floating on the earthy beige calcite sprinkled with small clear crystals. It has a fantastic luster and lovely colored hues.

Stilbite is a zeolite mineral appreciated for its delicate crystal formations and pastel hues, ranging from colorless to white, yellow, pink, and peach.  It forms distinctive tabular crystals with a bowtie or butterfly shape and exhibits a vitreous to pearly luster. Gyrolite often forms nodular aggregates that can appear glassy, dull or even fibrous. The aggregate nodules often accompany many fine and rare minerals such as Apophyllite and Okenite plus many of the Zeolites. Looks very nice on Prehnite!

Prehnite can form prismatic, tabular, or pyramidal crystals, but usually occurs in botryoidal, reniform, stalactitic, granular, or compact habits.  It is usually green in colour, but may be white, colourless, yellow, or gray.  It has a colourless streak.  Prehnite is transparent to translucent, with a vitreous to pearly luster.  Prehnite forms in cavities in basaltic lavas.
