This is a Selenite sphere from Morocco. The sphere comes from a selenite mass of Satin Spar, and is partially clear (the rest is translucent), with a lovely Chatoyancy.
Selenite, also known as Gypsum, is one of the more common minerals in sedimentary environments. It is a major rock forming mineral that produces massive beds, usually from precipitation out of highly saline waters. Since it forms easily from saline water, gypsum can have many inclusions of other minerals and even trapped bubbles of air and water.
Gypsum has several variety names that are widely used in the mineral trade. "Selenite" is the colorless and transparent variety that shows a pearl like luster and has been described as having a moon like glow. The word selenite comes from the Greek for Moon and means moon rock. Another variety is a compact fibrous aggregate called "satin spar" . This variety has a very satin like look that gives a play of light up and down the fibrous crystals. A fine grained massive material is called "alabaster" and is an ornamental stone used in fine carvings for centuries, even eons.
Selenite is believed to be a calming stone that instills deep peace and is excellent for meditation. Selenite has an ethereal quality and is said to inhabit the place between light and matter. Although an ancient stone, it is still one of the most powerful crystals.
It is thought that Selenite can be used to form a protective grid around a house, creating a safe and quiet space that does not allow outside influences in. A large piece of Selenite placed in the house ensures a peaceful atmosphere.
Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection.

You will receive 1 Ammonite half selected at random. Each Ammonite is beautiful and unique, variations in size and color should be expected. Note that the specimen shown in the photos represent a small selection of what we have in stock, the size and color of the specimen we send will vary.
This is a perfectly fossilized and highly polished natural Ammonite from Morocco which is perfect for gift giving to a new fossil collector. Ammonites are perhaps the most widely known fossil, possessing the typically ribbed spiral-form shell. These creatures lived in the seas between 240 - 65 million years ago, when they became extinct along with the dinosaurs. They belong to a group of predators known as cephalopods, which includes their living relatives the octopus, squid, cuttlefish and nautilus. These are perfect if you make jewelry and similar crafts or as a fossil collection item. They average 25 to 50 grams in weight and between 30 and 50 mm in length.
This Calcite Crystal sphere has a very desirable golden color with great definition and an outstanding pattern. The Septarians were formed during the Cretaceous period, 50 to 70 million years ago when the Gulf of Mexico reached what is now Southern Utah.
Decomposing sea life killed by volcanic eruptions were chemically attracted to the sediment around them and formed mud balls. As the ocean receded, the balls were left to dry and crack, trapping decomposed calcite from the shells and crystals formed. A thin wall of calcite was transformed into aragonite separating the bentonite heavy clay exteriors from the calcite centers.
Because of this phenomenon, the nodules are called septarians. The name Septarian is derived from the Latin name, Septem, meaning seven. The fact is that the mud balls cracked with 7 points in every direction, thereby creating this beautiful design. Septarians are composed of Calcite (The Yellow Centers), Aragonite (The Brown Lines) and the Outer Grey Rock is Limestone. Occasionally the fossil or some of the fossils which started the formation of the rock is noticeable in the rock.
Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection.
