This is a remarkable Nautiloid fossil from the Fammenian stage of the Devonian period, sourced from the Kowala Formation in Poland’s Kielce-Lagow Syncline.

A nautiloid fossil from the Famennian Stage of the Devonian Period dates to approximately 372–359 million years ago, during the final stage of the Devonian. Nautiloids were marine cephalopods with chambered shells, related to the modern nautilus. They lived in ancient seas and used the chambers in their shells to help control buoyancy.

This natural fossilized specimen, measuring 19x14x13 mm and weighing approximately 4.83 grams, provides a glimpse of marine life near the end of the Devonian, long before the age of the dinosaurs.  Although dinosaurs are the most well-known fossil life forms, pyritized fossils are also a favorite among collectors.
