Ammolite Gem | Ammonite | Fancy Cabochon | 35.6x20.5mm 48.85ct | Canada
Ammolite is an opal-like organic gemstone found primarily along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains of North America. It is made of the fossilized shells of ammonites, which in turn are composed primarily of aragonite, the same mineral contained in nacre, with a microstructure inherited from the shell. It is one of few biogenic gemstones; others include amber and pearl. In 1981, the same year commercial mining of ammolite began, ammolite was given official gemstone status by the World Jewellery Confederation.

Unit price perThis is a superb end cut of the famous Northwest Africa 4295 meteorite weighing 17.22 grams. This is a beautiful specimen from the famous Hupé Meteorite Collection.
Its dimensions are 39.58x25.76x14.87 mm. This North West Africa was originally classified as an Enstatite EL6/7, then an EL3 and finally an EL-Melt Rock meteorite and was found along with the rest of the total mass of only 312 grams in the Algerian Desert in August 2005. This is one of the oldest meteorites on our planet in terms of terrestrial age and has been referred to as a fossil meteorite.
This Enstatite chondrite shock Level is minimal and weathering varies from 2 to 5. This piece displays extremely well and is a completely recrystallized enstatite chondrite with polygonal to irregular grain outlines. The grain size varies from 0.02 to 0.7 mm. Round, curved, blocky objects contain coarser-grained orthopyroxene than in the matrix. No relict chondrules were observed.
This hard to acquire piece displays very well with its professional diamond lap finish and this high quality specimen would make an amazing addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem® and a The Hupé Collection specimen cards.
Howlite was discovered near Windsor, Nova Scotia in 1868 and named after Henry How, a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist. It often forms in nodules which resemble cauliflower heads. The nodules are opaque, white with gray or black veins, often showing web-like pattern. Dyed Blue Howlite is used as a turquoise substitute and is sometimes marketed as turquenite.
Howlite is said to be an extremely calming stone, which may help prevent insomnia. It is also said that Howlite teaches patience and helps to eliminate anger and strengthens positive character traits. Blue Howlite specifically, is said to aid in recalling dreams and accessing their insights.
