Unit price perThis is a great looking meteorite collection in a Riker style box containing individual specimens selected for you. From Kenya you have a Sericho meteorite specimen; from Russia you'll find a Sikhote Alin specimen and a Seymchan specimen. The Riker collection box is approximately 85x110x23mm (3.3x4.3x.9 inch).
You will receive 1 Riker box containing the above meteorite specimen. Note that the photos provided are representative, so you may not receive the exact pictured specimen; however, you will receive one of each of the specimen listed above of the same or higher value and similar characteristics.
The "as found" Sericho is a Pallasite Main Group meteorite. Two brothers were searching for their camels and came across several large, dense stones west of the village of Habaswein and south of Sericho, Kenya. Though recognized as meteorites in 2016, the masses had been known to camel-herders for decades. One village elder said that as a child, he and his brothers would play on top of the stones. It is classified as an Iron Pallasite main group with low weathering and is 1 of only 68 approved meteorites classified as such, with a recovered weight of about 2.8 T.
The specimen of the famous fall Sikhote Alin from Russia is a must in any collection. This Iron (IIAB) Coarsest Octahedrite classified meteorite was recovered in Russia after the fall of February 12, 1947. These specimens are known as shrapnel specimens, ripped and torn edges reminiscent of bomb shrapnel. They broke due to atmospheric pressure and/or mid-air collisions, and possibly explosive fragmentation upon impact. So far approximately 23 tons of this material has been recovered.
The Seymchan meteorite was found in 1967 in a brook-bed flowing into the river of Hekandue, a left tributary of the river of Jasachnaja of the Magadan district, USSR. It is classified as an Iron Pallasite main group and is 1 of only 48 approved meteorites classified as such, with a recovered weight of about 323 Kg.
Each specimen shows very well and is a perfect size to proudly display in your collection. Also included is a stand for the Riker box and a Canagem Collection specimen card for each meteorite. Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection.
