Fulgurite | Natural Lightning Impact Glass | 11.98 Grams | Sahara
$52.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parFulgurite | Natural Lightning Impact Glass | 11.98 Grams | Sahara
$52.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parFulgurite, also known as “fossilized lightning”, are natural glass tubes or formations that are created by the heat of lightning strikes. When a lightning bolt hits the ground it generates temperatures of up to 30,000 Kelvin (over 53,000°F), hotter than the surface of the sun. This intense heat melts the silica rich sand and fuses it almost instantly, forming hollow branching structures that solidify as they cool. In the Sahara Desert where thunderstorms occasionally roll in across the desert, these cooled formations can be found beneath the sand.
The fulgurites from the Sahara Desert are special because of their environment. The desert’s quartz rich sand is the perfect material for these glassy formations. Over time the wind blown sand often buries and preserves these delicate formations protecting them from erosion. Fulgurites are scientifically important because they trap the energy of the lightning and often preserve the composition of the atmosphere at the time of their creation. They are valuable to researchers studying geophysical processes and past climate conditions. And with their irregular shapes and glassy texture they are a sought after collectible for mineral enthusiasts and natural history museums.
Of note, since Fulgurite is created by an impact of lightning hitting the ground, it cannot be called impactite as it is not created by a meteoritic event.

$23.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parAn olivine volcanic bomb is a type of volcanic rock that contains olivine crystals and has been ejected during a volcanic eruption. Olivine is a mineral that is commonly found in the Earth's mantle and is one of the first minerals to crystallize as magma cools.
Volcanic bombs are large clots of lava that are ejected from a volcano during an explosive eruption. They can vary in size, and their shapes are often streamlined due to their molten nature as they are thrown through the air. When these volcanic bombs contain olivine crystals, they are referred to as olivine volcanic bombs.
This piece has been cut to showcase the beautiful green olivine crystals. It would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem Collection specimen card and a stand will also be included.

Vaca Muerta Meteorite | 2.73 Grams | Individual | Mesosiderite A1 | Chile
$32.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parVaca Muerta Meteorite | 2.73 Grams | Individual | Mesosiderite A1 | Chile
$32.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parThis is a superb looking Stony-iron or Mesosiderite Vaca Muerta (Dead Cow) classified meteorite weighing 2.73 grams. Its dimensions are 12x11x8 mm.
This classified meteorite was found in 1861 in the driest desert of the world called the Atacama, in Chile. Mesosiderites are formed on the surface of a parent body as a result of impacts with another body. The impact mixed broken fragments of surface eucrites with iron and olivine from deep within the body. Eucrites are believed to have come from the asteroid Vesta. Analysis has shown, however, that the Vaca Muerta eucrite inclusions are not consistent with other eucrites and possibly originated on a different parent body. Although most have a weathered exterior, they also have lots of metal inside and can be prepared and cut to show this.
This piece displays extremely well and would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem Collection specimen card.
This is an individual Northwest Africa or NWA 4293 formerly known as NQ10, an H6 chondrite found in the Sahara desert in 2005. It is one of 5854 approved meteorites classified as such. The meteorite weighs 7.0 grams with dimensions of 20x19x15 mm.
This fascinating meteorite was mainly found as small individuals and the total weight of the 100's of pieces recovered is recorded as a low 25 kg. The meteorite has a shock stage of 4 and weathering grade of 2. NWA 4293 is interesting in the way it looks as can be seen in the images. Most pieces are free of caliche, have a smooth gray surface and are small complete individuals. The unusual appearance is due to shock hardening and being sandblasted in the desert.
This specimen comes with a Canagem specimen card. Would make a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection.

Prix unitaire parRed Suevite Fallback Breccia | 145.8 Grams | End Cut | Sääksjärvi Crater, Finland
$299.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parThis is a great 145.8 gram Red Suevite Fallback Breccia from the Sääksjärvi crater in Finland. It has dimensions of 79x38x45 mm. Although not a meteorite, impactites are directly linked to them and their impacts and are probably going to be one of the rarest collection item you'll ever own. Impactite is a slag-like glassy object found on the surface of the earth, formed from rock melted by the impact of a meteorite.
The term impactite encompasses shock-metamorphosed target rocks, melts or suevites and mixtures of the two, as well as sedimentary rocks with significant impact-derived components and shocked mineral grains, tektites, anomalous geochemical signatures, etc.
Sääksjärvi is a lake in Kokemäki, Satakunta, western Finland, east of the town of Pori. The lake is notable because it overlies an impact crater. The crater is 5 kilometres (3 mi) in diameter and is completely buried under the lake and is not visible at the surface. The age of the impact structure is estimated to be about 543 ± 12 Ma (million years ago), at the boundary between the Ediacaran and Cambrian periods. The enormous heat and pressure at the impact explosion created an interesting melt, a Suevite, and shattered rocks and dust which fell back into the crater area becoming cemented together over the centuries. These rock formation is known as Fallback Breccia.
These are some of the best looking breccias we've found. Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem Collection specimen card.
Libyan Desert Glass | Natural Impact Glass | 26.8 Grams | Authentic Impactite
$142.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parLibyan Desert Glass | Natural Impact Glass | 26.8 Grams | Authentic Impactite
$142.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parThis is a rare and fantastic 26.8 gram Libyan Desert Glass from Kuffra, Libya, with dimensions of 51x40x25 mm.
Although its exact origin is still debated, the leading theory suggests it was formed by a high-energy event, such as a meteoric impact or airburst, that melted the desert sand directly where it lay, without being ejected into the atmosphere and re-entering. This results in different physical characteristics compared to tektites. Libyan Desert Glass is found specifically in the Great Sand Sea of the Eastern Sahara, within a more localized area spanning parts of western Egypt and eastern Libya.
This piece displays extremely well and is a quality translucent specimen. It has an aesthetic shape with a beautiful wind eroded body from the years spent in the Desert. Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem Collection specimen card.
This is a must have 17.8 gram Impactite from Norrbo, Sweden.
This impactite was formed approx. 89 million years ago when a meteorite crashed into the earth.
This gorgeous slice displays very well. It is amazingly light considering its mass of 42x38x9mm. Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem Collection specimen card.
Irghizite Impact Glass | 1.2 Grams | Impactite Tektite | Kazakhstan
$57.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parIrghizite Impact Glass | 1.2 Grams | Impactite Tektite | Kazakhstan
$57.00 CAD
Prix unitaire parHere we have for you an amazing 1.2 grams premium shaped Irghizite Tektite from the Zhamanshi Crater in Kazakhstan. Its Dimensions are 28x8x5 mm. These specimen were first found in 2003 and date back 900,000 ± 100,000 years.
This stretched and twisted Irghizite is typical of this material. Unlike other Tektites which can be found hundreds of miles from their point of origin, this is found in and around the crater formed by the impacting body. In this case it is speculated to be of cometary origin due to analysis of the elements contained within the Irghizites and other impactite found in the crater which are called Zhamanshinite.
This piece displays very well and is a very nice size showing multiple characteristics of its origin. Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes in a small specimen box and with a Canagem Collection specimen card.
