Iceland spar, formerly called Iceland crystal (Icelandic: silfurberg [ˈsɪlvʏrˌpɛrk], lit. 'silver-rock') and also called optical calcite, is a transparent variety of calcite, or crystallized calcium carbonate, originally brought from Iceland, and used in demonstrating the polarization of light.  

The most common crystal structure of Iceland spar is rhombohedral, but other structures, such as scalenohedral or prismatic, can form depending on formation conditions. Iceland spar is primarily found in Iceland but can occur in different parts of the world with suitable geological conditions such as China.

This is a must have 9.8 gram Impact Melt Rock from the Dhala Impact Structure, India. It measures 40x26x5 mm.  Although not a meteorite, impactites are directly linked to them and their impacts and are probably going to be one of the rarest collection items you'll ever own. Impactite is a slag-like glassy object found on the surface of the earth, formed from rock melted by the impact of a meteorite.

The term impactite encompasses shock-metamorphosed target rocks, melts or suevites and mixtures of the two, as well as sedimentary rocks with significant impact-derived components and shocked mineral grains, tektites, anomalous geochemical signatures, etc.

This beautiful Impact melt rock comes from the 11 km-diameter highly eroded Dhala impact structure in India. The Dhala structure has an estimated age of about 2Ga (2,000 Ma), making it the third oldest terrestrial impact structure.

This is a great looking Dhofar 273 classified meteorite weighing 1.8 grams. Its dimensions are 23x10x5 mm.

This L5 classified meteorite was found in Zufar, Oman in 2001. The total weight of the single piece recovered is recorded as 2.085 kg and the meteorite has a shock stage of 4 and weathering grade of 3. This piece displays extremely well.

This is a natural cluster formation of calcite on calcite crystals or two variations of the mineral found in a cracked concretion in a coal mine in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa, USA.

It is a specimen consisting of two types of calcite on matrix. The first type is a coating of iridescent, dark calcite on the matrix. The second type are white crystals of calcite.   It is in good condition.  Would be a nice addition to any new or existing collection.

Here we have for you a nice looking tumbled individual of a Sahara Desert NWA unclassified meteorite weighing 9.5 grams. Its dimensions are 30x24x8mm. This never classified North West Africa stone was found in the Sahara desert around 2000.

This smooth tumbled NWA Meteorite would make a great Worry Stone, there is a perfect indent in it for a thumb.

This is an individual Northwest Africa or NWA 4293 formerly known as NQ10, an H6 chondrite found in the Sahara desert in 2005.  It is one of 5854 approved meteorites classified as such. The meteorite weighs 5.1 grams with dimensions of 23x14x12 mm.  

This fascinating meteorite was mainly found as small individuals and the total weight of the 100's of pieces recovered is recorded as a low 25 kg. The meteorite has a shock stage of 4 and weathering grade of 2.  NWA 4293 is interesting in the way it looks as can be seen in the images.  Most pieces are free of caliche, have a smooth gray surface and are small complete individuals.  The unusual appearance is due to shock hardening and being sandblasted in the desert.

This is a specimen of Star Mica or Muscovite and Quartz cluster.  These clusters show crystals that grow in sheets or book formations.  It is silvery gold with good transparency when held up to the light.  The name Muscovite comes from the term Muscovy Glass which was a name for the thick sheets of Mica used as a substitute for glass Russia. The name Mica is derived from the Greek word that means to split.

On this nice specimen, the matrix faces are covered with beautiful golden yellow point stars of muscovite mica, a typical shape for this rare mica formation. The stars are the result of twinning; the points show a bit of wear but this does not detract from the beauty of such a piece.

These rare and fantastic Libyan Desert Glass were found in a strewn field in the Western Desert of Egypt. The weight and dimensions of each piece are provided below. 

The impact origin of Libyan Desert Glass is still disputed by some scientists and the exact impact site has not been located, although there is clear evidence that an impact has happened. The glass was discovered during an expedition of an international scientific community in 1932; and in 2013, a published analysis of a small black rock proposed that this sample was the remnant of a cometary impact.

The major component of Libyan Desert Glass is almost pure molten silica glass. Proof exists that Libyan Desert Glass had been used as a gemstone in the making of jewellery by the Pharaohs in ancient Egypt.
