Ancient Romans associated the emerald with Venus, the goddess of love and beauty.   They firmly believed that this stone's purity was so strong that no evil presence could exist around it.

Emerald is connected to the heart chakra.  It is said to bring about great love and promote happiness and faithfulness in a relationship.

Fulgurite, also known as “fossilized lightning”, are natural glass tubes or formations that are created by the heat of lightning strikes.  When a lightning bolt hits the ground it generates temperatures of up to 30,000 Kelvin (over 53,000°F), hotter than the surface of the sun. This intense heat melts the silica rich sand and fuses it almost instantly, forming hollow branching structures that solidify as they cool.  In the Sahara Desert where thunderstorms occasionally roll in across the desert, these cooled formations can be found beneath the sand.

These are perfect rosettes of metallic molybdenite, almost completely exposed in a glassy quartz matrix crystals from Moly Hill, Abitibi-Temiscamingue, Québec, Canada.  The pair of rosettes measure 17mm in length.

Molybdenite is commonly found as foliated masses meaning the mineral forms folia or layers, like the mineral mica. It is metallic gray, has a greasy feel, and is very soft at only 1 on Mohs' hardness scale. Its softness, metallic luster and gray color led scientists to mistakenly believe it was a lead mineral. This specimen shows the typical hexagonal layered structure of the crystal.

Pseudomorphs are mineral specimens that have the external shape of one mineral but are composed of another.  The pseudomorph goethite after marcasite forms when marcasite is exposed to oxidizing conditions and starts to oxidize and break down. As the marcasite breaks down, goethite replaces it in the crystal structure, preserving the shape of the original marcasite crystal. The resulting specimen appears as a marcasite crystal, but is actually composed of goethite.

The Farafra Oasis, in the White Desert, has been known for a number of years to deliver incredible pseudomorph specimens. The pseudomorphs occur within the Cretaceous Khoman Chalk, from which the White Desert derives its name.

This aegirine, also known as acmite, is a rare and stunning dark green and black mineral. It is found in many locations around the world; this outstanding specimen comes from the pegmatites at Dehnel's pit, Stettin pluton, Wausau Intrusive Complex in Marathon Co., Wisconsin, USA, a locality specimen where it is often found in association with microcline.

Aegirine is usually black, greenish-black, or brownish-black in color and has a glassy or vitreous luster. It has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, which means it is relatively hard and durable. A fine cluster of crystal of Narsarsukite from the famous Mont Saint-Hilaire, Québec, Canada. Narsarsukite is a rare sodium, titanium, iron silicate. Its color varies from pale to dark yellow, greenish yellow, dark green, grayish brown to dark brown, colorless, pale pink, lemon-yellow to orange-yellow, often with a glassy or dull or greasy luster. The crystals are usually well formed, sharp, tabular or lath-shaped crystals forming attractive radiating sprays, parallel stacked groups and aggregates, and may occur alongside other rare minerals that Mont-Saint-Hilaire is known for.
