Pseudomorphs are mineral specimens that have the external shape of one mineral but are composed of another.  The pseudomorph goethite after marcasite forms when marcasite is exposed to oxidizing conditions and starts to oxidize and break down. As the marcasite breaks down, goethite replaces it in the crystal structure, preserving the shape of the original marcasite crystal. The resulting specimen appears as a marcasite crystal, but is actually composed of goethite.

The Farafra Oasis, in the White Desert, has been known for a number of years to deliver incredible pseudomorph specimens. The pseudomorphs occur within the Cretaceous Khoman Chalk, from which the White Desert derives its name.

This specimen is remarkable for its relatively sharp marcasite crystal form.  It is in excellent condition.

Wavellite typically forms as radiating, spherical clusters or botryoidal (grape-like) aggregates, often appearing as green, yellow, brown, or even blue clusters on a host rock. The mineral typically forms in low-grade metamorphic rocks and phosphate-rich environments, often associated with minerals like quartz, variscite, and limonite.

Wavellite is found in several locations worldwide, with Arkansas, USA being one of the most famous sources, producing well-formed green botryoidal specimens. Other notable locations include England, Bolivia, Brazil, Germany, and Australia.

It is believed wavellite is linked to clarity, insight, and emotional balance, helping to provide a broader perspective on situations. It is sometimes associated with the heart chakra, thought to encourage compassion and emotional healing.

At this famous Canadian site, siderite typically forms as small, brown to tan crystals, often rhombohedral in shape, growing over or alongside white to gray albite. Scattered among them, tiny, sharp zircon crystals can appear — often reddish-brown, yellow, or even colorless depending on the exact specimen.

Mont Saint-Hilaire is renowned for producing rare and unusual mineral combinations, and specimens like this highlight the diversity and richness of the location. This is a nice group of small yellow wulfenite crystals on matrix from Total Wreck Mine, Arizona.  Wulfenite from the Total Wreck Mine is known for producing small but attractive crystals, usually in shades of yellow to orange-yellow. The crystals from this mine tend to be thin, tabular, and sometimes slightly translucent, often growing on a contrasting, earthy matrix.

While the Total Wreck Mine isn’t as famous as places like the Red Cloud Mine for wulfenite, it has still yielded pieces that are valued by collectors, especially because Arizona as a whole is renowned for producing some of the world’s finest wulfenite. Specimens from Total Wreck are typically more modest in size and brightness but are appreciated for their historic mining context and authentic desert character.

Wulfenite is often associated with creativity, emotional balance, and perseverance. Some believe it helps connect the heart and the will, encouraging people to follow their passions even through difficult or uncertain times. Iceland Spar, also known as optical calcite, is a clear, transparent variety of calcite famous for its unique optical property called double refraction. When you place the crystal over text or an image, it appears doubled — a visual effect that occurs because light splits into two rays as it passes through the crystal. This fascinating trait made Iceland spar historically important in early optical instruments and scientific studies, including navigation and the development of polarizing microscopes.

It’s typically colorless or very lightly tinted and forms naturally in sharp, rhombohedral shapes. High-quality Iceland spar is most famously found in Iceland, though it also occurs in places like Mexico, the U.S., and China.

Astrophyllite is a striking and rare mineral known for its bronze to golden-bladed crystals that radiate like starbursts, often embedded in a dark matrix of other minerals. Gormanite is a rare phosphate mineral best known for its striking blue to greenish-blue color, often forming as fibrous or radiating crystal clusters. It was first discovered in Yukon, Canada, and is named after Canadian mineralogist Don Gorman. 

Due to its rarity and delicate crystal habit, gormanite is primarily of interest to collectors and mineral enthusiasts. Well-formed specimens are appreciated for their intense color, silky luster, and often intricate, fibrous formations. Gormanite is relatively soft (around 4.5–5 on the Mohs scale) and fragile, so it's best suited for display rather than handling.
