Here we have for you a large 40.22 grams superbly shaped Indochinite Tektite from Maoming City, Guangdong Province, China. It measures 44x31x32 mm. Although not a meteorite, tektite is directly linked to them or their impacts, just consider its age of around 780,000 years old.
Tektite can still be interesting because of the persistent mystery which has resisted clear explanation of their creation for generations of geologists.
These specimen are sometimes found with chips, which is normal since they are glass objects of great age. This is the case with this specimen, as you can see in the photos, there are minor chips. As a result, we are offering this great specimen at a reduced price. This piece still displays very well and is a nice size showing multiple characteristics of its origin. The "as found" Sericho is a Pallasite Main Group meteorite. Two brothers were searching for their camels and came across several large, dense stones west of the village of Habaswein and south of Sericho, Kenya. Though recognized as meteorites in 2016, the masses had been known to camel-herders for decades. One village elder said that as a child, he and his brothers would play on top of the stones. It is classified as an Iron Pallasite main group with low weathering and is 1 of only 68 approved meteorites classified as such, with a recovered weight of about 2.8 T.
The specimen of the famous fall Sikhote Alin from Russia is a must in any collection. This Iron (IIAB) Coarsest Octahedrite classified meteorite was recovered in Russia after the fall of February 12, 1947. These specimens are known as shrapnel specimens, ripped and torn edges reminiscent of bomb shrapnel. They broke due to atmospheric pressure and/or mid-air collisions, and possibly explosive fragmentation upon impact. So far approximately 23 tons of this material has been recovered.
The Seymchan meteorite was found in 1967 in a brook-bed flowing into the river of Hekandue, a left tributary of the river of Jasachnaja of the Magadan district, USSR. It is classified as an Iron Pallasite main group and is 1 of only 48 approved meteorites classified as such, with a recovered weight of about 323 Kg.
