Stone Meteorites

This is a fabulous fresh Ghubara meteorite whole fragment weighing 41.7 grams and measuring 42x26x24mm. This meteorite was found in Oman, Southern Arabia in 1954 and is classified as an L5 Stony Black Chondrite.

This piece displays extremely well and is a very desirable size showing multiple characteristics of its time spent in space until it came crashing to earth.  Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem Collection specimen card.

Here we have for you a superb looking Dhofar 020 classified meteorite weighing 49.8 grams. Its dimensions are 68x32x20 mm.  Found 10 March 2000 in Dhofar, Oman, in the Arabian Peninsula this H4/5 classified chondrite has a TKW of 256 Kg with a shock stage of S4 and weathering grade of W3 by the Russian Academy of Sciences, USSR.

The following is an excerpt from Mark Bostick's review of this meteorite:  "Dhofar 020 is a ordinary stone chondrite meteorite. The meteorite is high in free metal and therefore falls in the H class. S4 tells it is highly shocked. Slices of the meteorite, show veins of the cosmic impact created mineral Ringwoodite, although fractures in the stone tend to hide this some. It almost appears to me to have splinted upon impact. The meteorite falls in 4-5 petrology class, a reference to how metamorphed the meteorite is from its original state. This is judged by studying a thin section of the meteorite, most visually at the chondrules, a feature unique to stone meteorite. In a thin section under polarized light, pyroxene chondrules seem more common then their olivine pair. Still some regions in the meteorite show scattered patches of bright olivine inclusions. These are fairly rare, at least on my thin section, and most of the meteorite's olivine and pyroxene, some of the easier things to see in a thin section, appear to have went through a metamorphism, and have "melted" into the matrix and are at times undistinguishable."

Here we have for you an incredible part slice specimen of the Northwest Africa (NWA) 2384 meteorite found in the Sahara Desert in 2004. This great collectible LL4 chondrite is characterized by abundant chondrules and nice colorful matrix. The total Mass is registered at a low 418 grams from a single stone, so this is to be considered a nice piece at 15.6 grams with dimensions of 45x36x3 mm.  The shock stage is registered at 3 and weathering grade is at 2.

This is a great looking individual Gao-Guenie H5 classified meteorite weighing 26.72 grams. Its dimensions are 29x23x23 mm and is 100% crusted. 

This H5 classified meteorite was observed falling at about 17:00 March 5, 1960 near the village of Gao in Africa. There is no total known weight recorded for this meteorite.

This is a superb looking slice of a Sahara Desert NWA 091 classified meteorite weighing 11.53 grams. Its dimensions are 33x26x4mm. 

It is a nice dark gray color and is full of small holes (the small black specks in the pictures). It is very similar to Kimble County except a bit darker. The single piece was found in the desert in 2000 and has a total mass of only 370 grams and was classified as an L6 by UCLA. It is shock level 4 (very high) and weathering grade W2 (Low). It is highly vesiculated from a shock event.

This piece displays extremely well with its professionally finished cut face and is also a very nice size. Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem Collection specimen card.

Here we have for you a nice looking end cut of a Sahara Desert NWA unclassified meteorite weighing 109.4 grams. Its dimensions are 49x40x39mm. This never classified North West Africa stone was found in the Sahara desert around 2000.

It's a good quality cut NWA meteorite specimen showing interesting internal structure (L5?) and attractive mottled interior with chondrules and metallic flakes. Some weathering shows the meteorite's time spent aging in the desert. Displays nicely with a ground and rough polished without a mirror finish.

Here we have for you a nice looking individual cut fragment of a Sahara Desert NWA unclassified meteorite weighing 107 grams. Its dimensions are 72x42x28mm. This never classified North West Africa stone was found in the Sahara desert around 2000.

It's a good quality individual fragment NWA meteorite specimen. Some weathering shows the meteorite's time spent aging in the desert. Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem Collection specimen card.

This is an incredible slice of the Big Rock Donga meteorite (MB 71) found in Nullarbor, South Australia in 1970.   Just a single stone of this H6 meteorite was found - by an old trapper who used the stone to plug up a rabbit burrow to keep the rabbits from escaping!  It remained on a sheep farm for many years before finally being recognised as meteoric in 1989.

The matrix is grey/green and mottled, with dark coloured chondrules, lots and lots of fine grained metal flake and dark fusion crust on some specimens. This is a very appealing, difficult to obtain meteorite which is not markedly weathered. . This rare and highly collectable H6 Chondrite is 1 of only 197 approved meteorites from South Australia. The total Mass is registered at 19 Kilograms and this is a nice piece at 3.98 grams with dimensions of 32x23x2 mm.

This is a fabulous Ghubara meteorite whole fragment weighing 39.7 grams and measuring 48x37x14 mm .  It was found in Oman, Southern Arabia in 1954 and is classified as an L5 Stony Black Chondrite.

This is a superb looking fragment of the Columbus classified meteorite weighing 3.83 grams. Its dimensions are 16x13x12 mm. This rare H5 classified meteorite was found in Luna County, New Mexico USA in 1997. The total weight of the stones recovered is recorded as a minuscule 165 grams. 

Here's what the finder, Michael Cottingham told us: "This is the Meteorite that started it all for me! My wife and I were out looking for meteorites on a dry lake bed in Southern New Mexico and I found one! This was a new meteorite discovery and it only took me 300 hours of searching to find my First One!  The COLUMBUS Meteorite was found by me in January of 1997. It was Classified by A. Rubin at UCLA as a H5 Chondrite. It was found near Columbus, Luna County, New Mexico and the Total Known Weight is ONLY 184 grams. Very Rare indeed."
