Allende Meteorite | 3.93 Gr | Part Slice | CV3 Carbonaceous | Chihuahua, Mexico | SO24

This is a gorgeous specimen of the Allende meteorite that fell in Pueblito de Allende, Chihuahua, Mexico at 1:05 am on February 8, 1969.  The Allende meteorite is a very rare type of CV3 Carbonaceous Chondrite, Type III and is 1 of 592 approved meteorites classified as CV3.  This piece is a beautiful specimen that weighs 3.93 gram and measures 25x23x3.

The huge fireball lighted up thousands of square miles of Northern Mexico and Southwestern United States, traveling from south to north. A meteorite shower spread over 50 square kilometers area. There are several pits; the biggest one is 60 cm across and 15 cm deep. The known total weight is approximately 2 Tons.  Search and preliminary investigation of the meteorites were carried out by Dr. E. King (NASA), Drs. B. Mason and R. Clarke (Smithsonian Institution, Washington, USA) and others.
