Here is a beautiful Spinel crystal in calcite host from Myanmar (Burma).   Its name comes from  the Latin 'spina" meaning arrow. It comes in various colors such as red, pink, blue, lavender, etc.  Over the years, Spinels have often been confused with Rubies.

Calcite is found throughout the world in sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. Some geologists consider it to be a "ubiquitous mineral" - one that is found everywhere. Calcite is the principal constituent of limestone and marble.

Spinel is believed to augment renewal, allowing one to refresh and restore himself. It is associated with hope, will and purpose, encouraging one to overcome all obstacles. Spinel is associated with the solar plexus chakra.

Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection.
