Unit price perNWA 1879 Meteorite | 4.16 Gr | Part Slice | Found 2003 | Stony Iron Mesosiderite | Morocco
$242.00 CAD
Unit price perThis is a superb looking Stony-iron or Mesosiderite class C classified meteorite named Northwest Africa NWA 1879 . This specimen is a part slice weighing 4.16 grams with dimensions of 22x17x4 mm.
This is a quote from Mr Hupé : "This is the NWA 1879, a rare C type Mesosiderite found in 2003 in Northwest Africa. This stony-iron type meteorite is beautiful because it is very fresh, has crystal clusters scattered throughout its matrix and has a great deal of elemental metal. NWA 1879 weighed 1,624 grams before preparation. About 31% was lost during cutting and polishing. There are several pairings to this meteorite in existence so the Total Known Weight (TKW) is unknown.
No expense was spared in the preparation of this meteorite. It was cut using a diamond blade in oil so that the silicates would not be plucked. When cutting this way the blade had to be redressed constantly to prevent the iron from loading up the cutting medium. It was coarse polished using a diamond lap, which needed the same treatment as the blade. It was then soaked in pure ethyl alcohol for days to extract the oil introduced during the cutting and polishing phases. A final dry polish was applied by hand, a very time consuming process. The final step was to clean it again with pure ethyl alcohol and dry it under a heat lamp providing great looking and stable specimens. This specimen comes with an identification card from The Hupé Collection."
This part slice displays extremely well and would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes protected in a gem jar with both a Canagem Collection and a The Hupé Collection specimen card.

Olivine Volcanic Bomb | Lava Coated Crystal | 1.45 Kg, | Mt Shadwell Volcano, Australia
$870.00 CAD
Unit price perOlivine Volcanic Bomb | Lava Coated Crystal | 1.45 Kg, | Mt Shadwell Volcano, Australia
$870.00 CAD
Unit price perVolcanic bombs are large clots of volcanic lava rock that are ejected from a volcano during an explosive eruption. They can vary in size, and their shapes are often streamlined due to their molten nature as they are thrown through the air. When these volcanic lava rocks contain olivine crystals, they are referred to as olivine volcanic bombs.
Mount Shadwell, a dormant volcano, was formed 25,000 years ago and is believed to have last erupted about 5,000 years ago. The town of Mortlake, which is situated at the foot of the volcano, is the self-proclaimed olivine capital of Australia. This is where large ejected rocks from Mt Shadwell, called volcanic bombs, are found.
This huge museum piece has been cut to show the green olivine crystals which are showcased beautifully against the surrounding black lava crust.
Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Canagem Collection specimen card.

Impact Breccia | Part Slice | 222.8 Grams | Metal Rich Impactite | Sudbury Structure, Canada
$230.00 CAD
Unit price perImpact Breccia | Part Slice | 222.8 Grams | Metal Rich Impactite | Sudbury Structure, Canada
$230.00 CAD
Unit price perThis is a must have 222.8 gram Metal Ore Copper rich Impact Breccia from the famous Sudbury Astrobleme Impact Structure in Ontario Canada. Its dimensions are 110x70x10 mm. Although not a meteorite, impactites are directly linked to them and their impacts and are probably going to be one of the rarest collection pieces you'll ever own.
About 1.87 billion years ago, an object from space nine kilometers in diameter slammed into Canada, a little north of Sudbury, Ontario creating the second largest impact structure on the earth. This impact was equivalent to a billion tons of TNT. An impact so big it cracked the earth, and in fact there are still earthquakes because of that event today! The many mineral rich deposits and strange rock formations in such close proximity has attracted attention for 100's of years, long before its impact origin was known.
Note that this is not a meteorite but a slice of Earth rock, altered by the impact of a very large meteorite. This came from the ring of the impact and is the harder to find gold-copper-bronze colored impactite described as a metal-rich breccia and sulfides composed chiefly of some amount of iridium, cobalt & selenium. In addition, most of these specimens will contain nickel, iron, sperrylite and pentlandite as well as minor amounts of other metals, metallic & silicate minerals."
Would be a beautiful addition to any new or existing collection. Comes with a Michael Cottingham Meteorite Collection and a Canagem Collection specimen card.
Shatter Cone | 903 grams | Impactite | Sudbury Impact Structure | Ontario, Canada
$359.17 CAD
Unit price perShatter Cone | 903 grams | Impactite | Sudbury Impact Structure | Ontario, Canada
$359.17 CAD
Unit price perThis is a fantastic shatter cone from Canada weighing 903 grams and measuring 12.8x8.3x6.3 cm. This shatter cone was formed 1.849 billion years ago at the Sudbury Basin (also named Sudbury Structure) in the Paleoproterozoic era. Although not a meteorite, impactites and shatter cones are directly linked to them and their impacts. Shatter cones are evidence that the rock has been subjected to an extreme shock with very brief high pressures.
Shatter cones are rare geological features that are only known to form in the bedrock beneath large meteorite impact craters. They have a distinctively conical shape with thin grooves (striae) that radiate from the top (apex) of the cone. Shatter cones can range in length from 1 centimeter to several meters. The azimuths of the cones' axes typically radiate outwards from the point of impact, with the cones pointing towards the center of the impact crater.
This piece displays very well and is a very nice size showing multiple characteristics of its origin. Would make a beautiful addition to any collection.
