This is a specimen of Star Mica or Muscovite and Quartz cluster. These clusters show crystals that grow in sheets or book formations. It is silvery gold with good transparency when held up to the light. The name Muscovite comes from the term Muscovy Glass which was a name for the thick sheets of Mica used as a substitute for glass Russia. The name Mica is derived from the Greek word that means to split.
On this nice specimen, the matrix faces are covered with beautiful golden yellow point stars of muscovite mica, a typical shape for this rare mica formation. The stars are the result of twinning; the points show a bit of wear but this does not detract from the beauty of such a piece.

It displays a superb crust on the back surface and the cut face was professionally prepared to show all the chondrules typical of the best 869s. Most samples are individual meteorites but some fragments (mostly >1 kg) also occur. In most cases the fusion crust has been polished or ablated by wind erosion. Many samples are more severely affected and show faces with deep wind erosion features. Fracture faces, formed by ground collision, show a typical gray-green color and sometimes visible brecciation (light and/or dark clasts). Lapis lazuli or lapis for short, is a deep-blue metamorphic rock used as a semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color. Lapis lazuli commonly contains pyrite and white calcite. The pyrite inclusions in natural stones are randomly scattered throughout the stone and have irregular outlines that are surrounded by darker blue rings.
Lapis Lazuli encourages taking charge of life. It is said to reveal inner truth, encourage self-awareness, and self-expression without holding back or compromising. This stone is believed to bring the enduring qualities of honesty, compassion and uprightness to the personality.
Lapis Lazuli is said to bond relationships in love and friendship and aid in expressing feelings and emotions.

Kyanite is a silicate mineral with the chemical formula Al2SiO5. It's known to be one of the most attractive natural minerals in the world, frequently found with lustrous blue bladed crystals, with the intensity of color varying by location of extraction. Kyanite regularly forms fibrous, radiating crystals, as well as flattened and tabular. Some crystals form with white striations, color bands, and even multi-colored crystals, though typically found with a deep blue streak running down the middle.

Shatter Cone Impactite | 78.3 grams | Steinheim Basin Impact Structure | Ries crater, Germany SO24
$180.09 CAD
Unit price perShatter Cone Impactite | 78.3 grams | Steinheim Basin Impact Structure | Ries crater, Germany SO24
$180.09 CAD
Unit price perThis is a fantastic shatter cone from Germany weighing 78.3 grams and measuring 80x43x28 mm. Although not a meteorite, impactites and shatter cones are directly linked to them and their impacts. Shatter cones are evidence that the rock has been subjected to an extreme shock with very brief high pressures.
Shatter cones are rare geological features that are only known to form in the bedrock beneath large meteorite impact craters. They have a distinctively conical shape with thin grooves (striae) that radiate from the top (apex) of the cone. Shatter cones can range in length from 1 centimeter to several meters. The azimuths of the cones's axes typically radiate outwards from the point of impact, with the cones pointing towards the center of the impact crater.
This shatter cone was formed 14.5 million years ago in Malmian or Jurassic limestone at the Steinheim Basin impact structure and Ries crater in Germany. This piece displays very well and is a very nice size showing multiple characteristics of its origin. Would make a beautiful addition to any collection.
