Malachite is perhaps the one of the most popular mineral for collectors due to its intense green color and sometimes beautiful banded masses. Africa contains several outstanding Malachite deposits. The mines at Katanga (Shaba), especially at Kolwezi, in the Congo (Zaire) produce Malachite in all sorts of odd shapes and forms, and are the source of the best banded, concentric, stalactitic and sparkling specimens. This is a fantastic Impactite Fallback Breccia from Germany weighing 32.9 grams and measuring 70x48x7mm. Although not a meteorite, impactites and shatter cones are directly linked to them and their impacts. The Steinheim Basin today exhibits a distinct morphological depression that is ∼110 m deep and ∼3.5 km in diameter; the height of the central uplift totals to more than 140 m. The original size of the pristine crater is estimated to be ∼3.8 km with an original depth of ∼205 m.

As this drainless morphological depression was filled by lake sediments shortly after the impact, the primary crater morphology is widely preserved. The crater rim is formed by steeply inclined and intensely brecciated Upper Jurassic limestone blocks that also contain numerous shattered chert nodules, as well as some loose blocks of the host limestone. An impact breccia, referred to as the so-called ”Primäre Beckenbrekzie” (“primary basin breccia”) and interpreted as a “fallback breccia”, is known from many drillings in the Steinheim Basin.

Mainly composed of Middle to Upper Jurassic limestones, marls, mudstones, and sandstones, the impact breccia inside the morphological depression of the Steinheim Basin is overlain by lake sediments and is obviously preserved in its original thickness and position.   This piece displays very well and is a very nice size showing multiple characteristics of its origin. Would make a beautiful addition to any collection.

This is a beautiful combination of Apophyllite, Stilbite and Calcite on Chalcedony Druse. It is a large specimen at over 2 kg and has many double terminated crystals.

Stilbite is a zeolite mineral appreciated for its delicate crystal formations and pastel hues, ranging from colorless to white, yellow, pink, and peach.  It forms distinctive tabular crystals with a bowtie or butterfly shape and exhibits a vitreous to pearly luster. 

One of the distinguishing features of apophyllite is its ability to form well-defined crystals with a pyramid-like shape. These crystals often exhibit a prismatic or pseudo-cubic habit and have a vitreous luster. Apophyllite is transparent to translucent and is commonly found in colorless or white varieties, although it can also occur in shades of green, pink, yellow, or brown.

Chalcedony is a microcrystalline Quartz found in many different colours and patterns.  It has a number of crystals grouped under it many of which are very familiar, including Agate, Carnelian, Chrysoprase, Aventurine, Jasper and Onyx.

Calcite is found throughout the world in sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. Some geologists consider it to be a "ubiquitous mineral" - one that is found everywhere. Calcite is the principal constituent of limestone and marble. This is a must have 59.5 gram Metal Ore Copper rich Impact Breccia from the famous Sudbury Astrobleme Impact Structure in Ontario Canada. Its dimensions are 52x31x13 mm.  Although not a meteorite, impactites are directly linked to them and their impacts and are probably going to be one of the rarest collection pieces you'll ever own. 

Mark Bostick wrote "About 1.87 billion years ago, an object from space nine kilometers in diameter slammed into Canada, a little north of Sudbury, Ontario creating the second largest impact structure on the earth. This impact was equivalent to a billion tons of TNT. An impact so big it cracked the earth, and in fact there are still earthquakes because of that event today!  The many mineral rich deposits and strange rock formations in such close proximity has attracted attention for 100's of years, long before its impact origin was known. 

Note that this is not a meteorite but a slice of Earth rock, altered by the impact of a very large meteorite.  This came from the ring of the impact and is the harder to find gold-copper-bronze colored impactite described as a metal-rich breccia and sulfides composed chiefly of some amount of iridium, cobalt & selenium. In addition, most of these specimens will contain nickel, iron, sperrylite and pentlandite as well as minor amounts of other metals, metallic & silicate minerals."

This is a great looking Russian Sikhote-Alin classified meteorite weighing 26.8 grams. Its dimensions are 29x22x13mm. This Iron (IIAB) Coarsest Octahedrite classified meteorite was recovered in Russia after the fall of February 12, 1947.

So far approximately 23 tons of this material have been recovered. This piece displays extremely well and is a very desirable size. These specimens are known as shrapnel specimens, ripped and torn edges reminiscent of bomb shrapnel. They broke due to atmospheric pressure and/or mid-air collisions, and possibly explosive fragmentation upon impact. These pieces are a good example of the shrapnel type Sikhote-Alin.

Here we have for you a nice looking tumbled individual of a Sahara Desert NWA unclassified meteorite weighing 40.8 grams. Its dimensions are 51x28x17mm.  This never classified North West Africa stone was found in the Sahara desert around 2000.

This mineral combination is from a classic locality, the Newfoundland Zinc Mine, which has been closed for many years. This mine was a high grade zinc mine with very little  contaminants in the ore which made it easier to mill and produced good concentrate.  This site is known for beautiful mineral specimens, particularly sphalerite crystals often associated dolomite.

The sphalerite from this region typically appears as dark brown to black, resinous crystals, sometimes with red or orange undertones due to iron content. These crystals often serve as a striking backdrop for the light-colored dolomite, which forms as rhombohedral or curved aggregates on top. The contrasting colors and textures make specimens from Daniel’s Harbor highly collectible.

This is a specimen of Star Mica or Muscovite and Quartz cluster.  These clusters show crystals that grow in sheets or book formations.  It is silvery gold with good transparency when held up to the light.  The name Muscovite comes from the term Muscovy Glass which was a name for the thick sheets of Mica used as a substitute for glass Russia. The name Mica is derived from the Greek word that means to split.

On this nice specimen, the matrix faces are covered with beautiful golden yellow point stars of muscovite mica, a typical shape for this rare mica formation. The stars are the result of twinning; the points show a bit of wear but this does not detract from the beauty of such a piece.

This is a fabulous 1.24 grams Molong stony iron classified meteorite fragment.  This superb meteorite was found in Ashburnham, NSW, Australia in 1912 and has a low Total Known Weight of 104 kg.  This is 1 of 72 approved meteorites classified as Pallasite, PMG. 

This Molong meteorite fragment is a rare 1.24-gram piece of Pallasite PMG (main chemical group) stony iron, originally part of a 230-pound mass found in 1912 near Ti Tree Creek, Ashburnham, NSW, Australia. Known for its unique iron-nickel matrix interspersed with olivine crystals, this specimen offers valuable insight into early solar system processes. 

Even though the iron of this ancient meteorite has changed into Meteorite Shale due to its millions of years of exposure on earth, it still shows the beautiful pallasite structure it is famous for and will also reacts strongly to a magnet. Unlike most pallasites you see, Molong is almost all olivine crystals with just a little metal between them. The olivine crystals are semi-translucent, you can't see through them, but you can see reflections from within the crystals.
